Hidden Gem of the Week!

Written and Directed by: Michael Haneke
Starring: Arno Frisch, Angela Winkler,
and Ulrich Muhe

This controversial film follows Benny, a fourteen-year-old boy who is a video freak. After he becomes obsessed with an amateur video of a pig being slaughtered, Benny is inspired to commit an unspeakable act of violence. Upon finding out about this, Benny's parents must decide what is the best thing to do in order to protect their son and their family.

I chose this film this week in honor of the paper over Haneke's Funny Games I have been working on throughout the day. This film is absolutely not for everyone, it can be very disturbing at times. For those that may be able to handle it, I think you will be surprised at what you may see. If you are brave enough to attempt this movie, I encourage you to focus on the way Haneke uses video monitors to make a statement on the emotional disconnect Benny experiences.

So what do you think? Do you think you can handle seeing a movie as potentially disturbing as Benny's Video?
